Learning how to choose your goals is absolutely crucial to success. Choosing goals that are too lofty or far outside your skillset are a recipe for disaster. At least, it will be if you don’t plan accordingly. Choose your battles wisely, and you can come out on top. Choose poorly, and you’re in for a lifetime of disappointment.

Yоu will gеt a lоt of bаd аdvісе оn thе lоng rоаd of lіfе. Some оf уоu will соmе out winners, and mаnу others will prove "losers" —it’s part of life. I am here to inform you thаt much of that advice is wrong. In thіѕ section, I will еxроѕе ѕоmе оf thеѕе crazy thеоrіеѕ while highlighting whаt really matters.

The first step is figuring out where you eventually want to be. I know I just said don’t aim too high, but here’s the trick—you’re going to create a smaller set of sub-goals that will create a metaphorical stairway to success, engineered with the skills and knowledge you need to reach those lofty goals. Usain Bolt didn’t win his gold medal by throwing on a pair of sneakers and going for a jog; he won by throwing on those sneakers every day and running until he got it. He worked his way up by spending years training.

DO WHAT YOU LOVE

If you enjoy solving people's problems, a career in consulting may be for you. Maybe you enjoy writing your thoughts and opinions down; look into local newspapers and publications that might take you on as a part-time writer. Do you like fashion? Consider becoming a personal shopper. These are simple jobs that can grow into lucrative businesses while providing a sense of service to the community. And while entering these markets is remarkably easy, becoming an expert will take time and effort on your part.

Tired of Being Bored? CHALLENGE YOURSELF

I have some clients that explained to me that they wanted to take back control of their lives; they’re bored. Sure, they have comfortable lives, and they don’t need to work, but they want to do something more. They’re tired of spending their days shopping with the girls, tired of hosting brunches for the ladies. While this might seem like a nice, relaxing life; let’s all remember that we go on vacation to decompress and change up the scenery a bit. But when life becomes a vacation, it’s easy to stagnate and fall into an unfulfilling lifestyle with no challenges. Eventually, the conversation turns to gossip, and they run out of stories to tell. They get caught in the feeling of having peaked years ago, and that drives the unconscious insecurity of “what am I doing with my life?” to the surface.
